FORD SCORES 27 AS SAINTS ROLL PAST TAAG ACADEMY, 81-69

Gainesville, FL – Chuck Ford scored a season high 27 points on Monday night, as the FCCAA #7 Santa Fe College Saints (7-2) easily defeated TAAG Academy (Tampa, FL) by a score of 81-69.

Ford finished the first half with 14 points and continued his scoring assault in the second period, going for 13 more.

“It was good to get a win at home after dropping our last one by two points,” said Coach Chris Mowry. “We did a good job in the first half of steadily building a lead. Chuck shot the ball very well and gave us a nice spark off the bench.”

After trading the lead through the first few minutes of the game, the Saints took control and went on a 32-14 run over the last 13 minutes of the period to pull ahead 43-25 at halftime. Ford led the attack, hitting three three point shots over a four minute stretch as part of the run.

In the second half, the Saints struggled to score out of the gate, scoring only six points over the first eight minutes. TAAG Academy kept things close and trimmed the lead to eight points with 5:33 to go in the game. SFC answered with a layup by Ford and two free throws by Chad Renfro to get the lead back to double digits.

“I was disappointed in our effort in the second half,” Mowry said. “We gave up too many transition baskets and didn’t rebound well. Giving up 44 points in the second half is not the way we want to close out games when we have a halftime lead.”

TAAG went on another run with three minutes left in the game, getting the lead down to 75-69. The Saints stopped the rally short and scored the last six points of the game to secure their seventh win of the season.

Ford led all scorers with 27 points, Chad Renfro was also in double figures with 10 points and Iran Hollis led the team with 11 rebounds.

“For us to succeed this weekend against Tallahassee (FCCAA #4) and Northwest Florida State (FCCAA #2) we will have to play a lot better,” said Mowry. “Our guys need to really work hard in practice this week to prepare for two of the best teams in the state.”

The Saints travel to Marianna, Fl for the Panhandle Shootout on Friday and Saturday. They will play Tallahassee CC on Friday at 3:00pm and NW FL. State on Saturday at 7:00pm.
