CURRY PROPELS SAINTS TO SWEEP OF SEMINOLE STATE, 2-1 AND 6-2

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (41-7, 19-3 MFC) met Seminole State College (36-12, 16-6 MFC) in a battle of the top two teams in the Mid-Florida Conference on Tuesday night and came away with two crucial wins in their bid for a sixth straight MFC title.  The wins guarantee SF at least a share of the conference title.

Ashley Curry was the hero in game one, knocking a two out, two run double down the left field line in the bottom of the sixth to give the Saints a lead they would not relinquish.

Colena Lazar (24-2) pitched all seven innings for SF and gave up one run on two hits as she outdueled Seminole’s Hope Bitzer.

Taylor Pangilinan and Mandi Brown finished with two hits each and Curry was 1-for-3 with the game winning double and two RBI.

The Saints took control in game two with a run in the third inning on a wild pitch by Bitzer.  Seminole tied it up in the top of the fourth but SF put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of a two out, two RBI double by Alexis Sowell, chasing starter Hope Bitzer from the game.  Bitzer took the loss in both halves of the double header.

Santa Fe padded their lead in the fifth inning with three runs on four hits.  Lawna Hunter started the inning with a single and Taylor Pangilinan followed her with a double to put runners on second and third.  The next batter, Gia Tomossone hit a sacrifice fly, two batters later Colesa Lazar hit an RBI single and Mandi Brown capped the scoring with a single to score Ashley Peterson, who pinch ran for Lazar.

Jasmine Warren (17-4) closed out the rest of the game for her seventeenth victory of the year.  She pitched all seven innings and struck out three.

The Saints piled up nine hits in the win.  Alexis Sowell was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI, Pangilinan was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Ashley Curry was 1-for-2 with a double.

The Saints will travel to Ocala to take on Central Florida CC on Thursday in their last regular season MFC games.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:30pm.  With a win in either game of the double header, Santa Fe will win the MFC title outright for the sixth straight season.
