Raul Villarreal Discusses Hemingway’s Life in Cuba Oct. 17

Visual artist Raúl Villarreal, who with his father René Villarreal wrote “Hemingway’s Cuban Son,” will discuss Hemingway’s life in Cuba and the author’s friendship with Villarreal’s family at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17 in the SF Fine Arts Hall, 3000 NW 83rd Street, Gainesville. Admission is free and the public is invited. Villarreal’s art will be on display and he will sign copies of his book at 6:30 p.m.
The title of the 2009 publication refers to the enduring relationship the famous author had with René Villarreal, a Cuban lad who was 10 when Hemingway first met him. ” ‘My Cuban son’ is what Hemingway often called my father,” said the younger Villarreal.
“I consider that the information in ‘Hemingway’s Cuban Son’ sheds some new light on the author’s life in Cuba, where he lived the longest and wrote some of his best works,” said Villarreal.
