Santa Fe College’s President Dr. Sasser Receives Award from Governor Rick Scott

IMG_7440On behalf of Santa Fe College, President, Dr. Jackson Sasser, accepted the “Governor’s Higher Education Leadership Award” from Governor Rick Scott, during the “Degrees To Jobs Summit” held at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, FL. The award was recognition for Santa Fe College’s investment in Florida’s future by attaining the highest graduation rate of Florida’s 28 state colleges.

During his remarks at the summit Sasser told attendees that Florida’s state colleges helped bring Florida out of the recession. In reference to 28,000 jobs that were created in Florida in April, Sasser remarked, “…and guess who trained most of them? Our colleges.” “We are driven by what’s needed in business and industry. We listen carefully to every emerging business.”

President Sasser continued, “The University of Florida is one of our most important partners.Between 66 percent and 76 percent of students, who come to Gainesville’s Santa Fe and aspire to go to UF, get in.”
Sasser states, “I appreciate Governor Scott acknowledging the success of Santa Fe College students at his higher education summit. I have never known faculty and staff members more committed to students reaching their highest aspirations.”
