SF BASEBALL STRONG EFFORT LEADS TO SWEEP OF SOUTH GEORGIA, 7-4 AND 3-0

Gainesville, FL – The NJCAA #8 Santa Fe Saints (2-1) bounced back from an opening day defeat to pick up two wins against the always talented South Georgia State College Hawks.  Pitching was the name of the game as the Saints held SGSC to 10 hits combined over the two games.  Robert Girgis (1-0) earned the win in game one, pitching four strong innings, and Sean Gabel (1-0) was the winner in game two, throwing five innings of three hit ball.  Troy Bacon had a save in each game, giving him two on the year.

Brandon Hernandez (solo) and Kyle Phillips (three run) each homered for SF in the first game of the double header to pace the Saints to a 7-4 win.  Girgis started on the hill and went four strong before turning it over to Ricky Miranda for two and Troy Bacon for the save.

Alex Goebel and Mikey Navarette had two hits apiece, and Phillips was 1-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI.

In game two, Gabel was lights out, throwing 40 of 59 pitches for strikes to limit the Hawks to just three hits and a walk.

Santa Fe scored a run on a single by Brandon Hernandez in the third to take a 1-0 lead and added two runs in the fifth for some cushion.

Anthony Auletta bridged the gap in the sixth inning, and Bacon needed just 12 pitches to pick up the save.

SF will be right back at it Sunday, Jan. 29 when they host Indian River State College in a single game at 1 p.m.
