SF BASEBALL – ST. PETE HANDS SAINTS SECOND STRAIGHT LOSS, 7-2

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints struggled to mount much offense Wednesday afternoon against St. Petersburg College pitching, falling to the Titans 7-2.  SF produced just five hits in 29 at bats.

With a stiff wind blowing out to center field at the start of the game, it appeared early on as though it may be a slugfest.  Santa Fe plated a run in the first and St. Pete answered with a homerun in the second that appeared to be a routine fly ball but carried over the right centerfield fence.

The Saints (10-5) scored just once more in the fourth.  The Titans took a 3-2 lead into the seventh and added two insurance runs in the inning, followed a run in the eighth and another in the ninth for the final runs.

Robert Girgis started on the hill for Santa Fe and tossed 6.2 innings, allowing five runs, (four earned), struck out six and walked six.  SF pitchers allowed just nine hits but the Titans made the most of their opportunities, capitalizing with four extra base hits.

Santa Fe College will try and get back on track on the road Friday at Eastern Florida State College at 5 p.m. and a double header on the road at Indian River State College Saturday at noon.
