The Santa Fe Singers, directed by Choral and Vocal Music Professor Lynn Sandefur, will “Sing Into Spring” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017, in the Fine Arts Hall at the Northwest Campus of Santa Fe College, 3000 NW 83 Street, Gainesville.

Tickets are $15 main floor and $12 balcony for adults; $9 for seniors, children and University of Florida students; and free for Santa Fe College faculty, staff and students with college identification cards. “The singers are performing what I call a ‘variety chorale,’” Sandefur explained. “The concert features selections from different decades and different styles of song—old favorites as well as new arrangements from classical, jazz, pop and Broadway. And the audience will get a sneak peek at our summer musical, ‘A Chorus Line.’”

Included in the program are songs from “Carmina Burana,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Hamilton.” Piano Professor Mitch McKay and the Santa Fe Band, directed by Music Professor Steve Bingham, will accompany the singers.

Joan Freese, a former Santa Fe College student, will be spotlighted on stage as she interprets the songs with American Sign Language.

Sandefur teaches voice and piano at SF and has served as musical director for many of the college’s theatre productions. She has performed throughout Florida as a featured soloist with symphony orchestras and choruses. She has served as choral director, instructor and coordinator for Alachua County’s schools and was twice named Alachua County High School Teacher of the Year. The choirs, ensembles and soloists she has directed have received top honors and awards at state and national festivals and competitions. Sandefur holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in music education from Stetson University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Florida.

“Sing Into Spring” is sponsored in part by SF College and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture and Visit Gainesville, a Tourist Development Tax Grant from the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners in conjunction with the Alachua County Tourist Development Council.
