Garcia, Green Lead Saints to 4-2 Win Over Gulf Coast at FCSAA Tourney

April 28, 2017 – SF FASTPITCH

Vero Beach, FL – Facing elimination at the FCSAA Tournament, two sophomores decided they didn’t want it to be their last game in a Santa Fe College uniform.  Autumn Green tossed a complete game in the circle and Cassandra Garcia knocked in two to lead the Saints to a victory over Gulf Coast State College 4-2 and a date with the #3 team in the nation, Chipola College, on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Santa Fe College scored three in the first and it would be enough for Green to pitch SF to the win.  The first run came on a fielder’s choice RBI by Evelyn Arguelles and Garcia doubled later in the inning to make it 3-0.

A solo home run by Gulf Coast in the fifth cut the lead to two.  The Saints got an insurance run in the top of the seventh and Green pitched her way out of a jam in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.

Seven SF players had a hit, including two from Haissette Escudero.
The win sets up a date with Chipola College at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29 in another elimination game.
