Tropical Storm Emily Forms off the Coast of Tampa

July 31, 2017 – Tropical Storm Emily became the fifth named storm of the 2017 hurricane season.  As of the 8 a.m. report from Monday July 31, 2017, Emily is 45 miles WSW of Tampa, Florida tracking due east at 8 mph. Tropical Storm Emily has sustained winds of 45 mph gusting to 60 mph.

The storm is expected to track quickly across the state and be in the Atlantic Ocean late Tuesday afternoon.

The effects of TS Emily will be minimal in the Gainesville, FL area.  There will be breezy conditions today with winds of 10 – 15 mph but little to no rain.
