Santa Fe College Professor McKay in Concert at SF Fine Arts Hall

August 30, 2017 – Santa Fe College Associate Professor of Music and Piano Mitch McKay will appear in a solo concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, in the SF Fine Arts Hall at the Northwest Campus, 3000 NW 83 Street, Gainesville.

McKay will perform a diverse mix of classical piano music by African, American and European composers.

“As part of the college’s goal to internationalize the curriculum, I’ve been researching and trying out music written by non-Western composers,” McKay said. “My interest in piano music by African and African-American composers began as academic curiosity. I love to branch out and find music that’s unlike anything I’ve played or taught before. I hope that the performance of this music can add to Santa Fe College’s existing inclusive and welcoming atmosphere.”

In addition to McKay’s talent, the concert will feature the college’s Steinway Model D Concert Grand piano that was acquired in 2011 from the University of Florida, where it was used in performance and signed by the renowned pianist Andre Watts. SF is the first member of the Florida College System to be named an All-Steinway School, a title reserved for colleges and universities with 90 percent or more Steinways and that meet the manufacturer’s standards for use, maintenance and security of the pianos.

Tickets are available at the box office 352-395-4181 or through the SF Fine Arts hall website sfcollege.edu/finearts. Tickets for SF students, faculty and staff are free with a valid SFID.
