Open Enrollment Starts Monday October 23

October 11, 2017 – Open Enrollment for Santa Fe College employees will begin Monday, Oct. 23, 2017. Open Enrollment is the period where employees can review/elect/decline or make changes to their benefits for the upcoming calendar year. No changes can be made after open enrollment unless they are due to a qualifying, life changing event, e.g., marriage, divorce, birth, etc. You can see a 2018 Benefit Comparison Chart here.

In addition to the health care plans offered last year, there will be a new Health Savings Account (HSA) option for the 2018 plan year. A  Health Savings Account (HSA) combines high deductible health insurance with a tax-favored savings account.  Money in the savings account can help pay the deductible.  Once the deductible is met, the insurance starts paying a percentage of medical costs. Money left in the savings account earns interest and is accessible even after termination or retirement. The HSA health plan replaces the current HRA plan that will be transitioning out during 2018.

Another new option for 2018 is Teladoc. All employees who participate in any of the college’s health care plans will be able to participate in Teladoc. Teladoc provides access to U. S. board-certified physicians who can resolve most non-emergency medical issues via phone or online video.  The cost for Teladoc utilization will be $10 per call for PPO 3562, HMO or HRA participants and up to $45 for HSA plan members. Teledoc is intended to be very user-friendly.

  • Step 1:  Contact Teladoc any time of day.
  • Step 2:  Talk with a physician.
  • Step 3:  Resolve the issue- a physician will diagnose and prescribe medication if necessary to the pharmacy of choice.

The open enrollment period for the 2018 plan year benefits is scheduled from Monday, Oct. 23, to Friday, Nov. 3. Please take some time to review your current benefits, as you may want to make changes or select new benefits. Benefits available during Open Enrollment for the 2018 plan year are: medical, dental and vision insurance; flex spending; cancer insurance; sick leave pool and Legal/ID Shield. Supplemental life and Supplemental AD&D, as well as short and long-term disability will be subject to insurability if you wish to add coverage for the 2018 plan year.

All employees are encouraged to log in to the college’s benefit portal, even if you plan to keep the same benefits that you currently have. To enroll or make changes to your current health, dental, vision, disability, supplemental life, dependent life LegalShield and flex spending you will need to log in to the FBMC Benefit portal during the designated OE period of Oct. 23 through Nov. 3.
