November 2, 2017 – Santa Fe College was recently awarded a 2017 Chancellor’s Best Practice award from the Florida Department of Education. SF was recognized by Florida College System Chancellor Madeline Pumariega for efforts made to reduce student loan debt through a four-pronged financial aid campaign.
SF students awarded financial aid are notified through the student portal that gives them information about the differences between subsidized and unsubsidized student loans. Students are then given an opportunity to decline unsubsidized loans for greater savings. They are given access to financial literacy to better serve their individual needs. Finally, SF has changed the way loans are packaged to help save students money.
As a result of these efforts, students have been able to lower the amount of unsubsidized loans by a combined $1.8 million.
