Santa Fe Singers Perform “Songs of the Season” Nov. 30, 2017

November 15, 2017 – The Santa Fe Singers, under the direction of Santa Fe College Music Professor Lynn Sandefur, will perform in the annual “Songs of the Season” holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, in the SF Fine Arts Hall.

Tickets are $15 main floor and $12 balcony for adults; $9 for seniors, children and University of Florida students; and free for students, faculty and staff with a valid SFID. For ticket information, call the Box Office at 352-395-4181 or visit the SF Fine Arts ticket website at sfcollege.edu/finearts.

“Our annual holiday concert ushers in the season with songs of happy traditions and heartfelt warmth,” Sandefur explained. “The program this year includes songs from the 16th century up to now.”

Approximately 45 students make up the Santa Fe Singers. The program includes songs for Christmas and Hanukkah, two of the main winter holidays celebrated in the United States. The old favorite Christmas carols “Angels We Have Heard On High” and “Carol of the Bells” are on the program along with “We Need A Little Christmas” and newer songs from movies such as “The Polar Express” and “Home Alone.” “Ose Shalom,” from a traditional Hebrew text in the Jewish liturgy, refers to the personal peace bestowed by God. The lyrics of “Al Shlosha D’Varim” refer to an essential maxim from Jewish morality laws.

Adding to the festivities, the singers will be accompanied by members of the SF Concert Band and SF Jazz Ensemble under the direction of SF Music Professor and Band Director Dr. Steve Bingham, Ph.D.

The concert is sponsored in part by Santa Fe College, SF Student Life, and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture and Visit Gainesville, a Tourist Development Tax Grant from the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners in conjunction with the Alachua County Tourist Development Council.
