Evans Scores 18 as Saints Fly Past Knights, 78-59

Santa Fe College basketball player Alsean Evens

November 20, 2017 – Alsean Evans had another solid all-around effort for the Santa Fe Saints Friday evening, scoring 18 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists, and a steal in 25 minutes to lead SF past Clearwater Academy International 78-59.

The Saints (6-1) continued to score at an efficient rate, despite a cold shooting night from behind the three point line, shooting just 27 percent.

The first and second half mirrored each other identically for the Saints. They scored 39 points, made 14-of-31 shots, three three pointers, and eight free throws in each half.

Malik Morrow contributed at both ends with 10 points and eight rebounds, Brady Fernandes had 11 points on 4-for-4 shooting, and Ivan Smith had 10 points, going 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

“We had a lot of different guys contribute tonight,” said SF Coach Chris Mowry. “Alsean and Malik really contributed in a lot of different areas for us against zone defense, which we don’t see all that often, but needed some exposure to for down the road. I thought all of our guys made some plays tonight.”

It was a homecoming of sorts for CAI Head Coach Aaron Holmes who played a year at SF (2008-09) before transferring to Tulane University to finish his collegiate career. Holmes was an FCSAA All-State pick his one year at SF.

The Saints will hit the road for their next game, returning to the court Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Polk State College for a 7 p.m. tip.
