Judging by the stunned looks on the faces of the players, they were not expecting such a warm welcome home.

The team made it all the way to the NJCAA National Tournament May 15-18 in St. George, Utah. This is quite an accomplishment, and one to be celebrated.  SF ends the season with a 42-18 record, the Mid-Florida Conference Championship, and the Atlantic District Championship. Congrats!

SF FASTPITCH

St. George, UT – The Santa Fe Saints season came to an end on Thursday afternoon at the hands of Weatherford CC (TX) 9-1.  SF was never able to get anything going offensively and the Coyotes bats were on fire from the get go, leading to their mercy rule victory.

The Coyotes wasted little time taking control of the contest as they jumped out to a commanding 8-1 lead after three innings, scoring a single run in the first and two more in the second, before erupting for five tallies in the third. WC infielder Sydney Kramer delivered a two-run single as part of the decisive rally in the frame. Weatherford then plated the game-ending run on a bases-loaded error in the fifth.

The run support was more than enough for Coyote starter Kylie Studioso, who scattered one run and three hits in three innings of work with four strikeouts. Kramer finished with three hits and three RBI to lead the Coyotes offensively.

Santa Fe clean-up hitter Rachel Hoeft accounted for the Saints’ lone RBI, which came in the third inning.

SF ends the season with a 42-18 record, the Mid-Florida Conference Championship, and the Atlantic District Championship.

SF FASTPITCH

St. George, UT – It took until the fourth inning, but it was better late than never for the Santa Fe Saints (42-18) on Thursday afternoon as they powered past the Pitt CC Bulldogs 4-0 to advance on in the NJCAA Tournament.

Karla Claudio (22-7) started in the circle and scattered four hits over seven innings, striking out six to earn the win.

Geena Capitini put SF on the board first, knocking in Sid Masso in the fourth inning. Celeste Bradshaw followed with a single to plate Capitini for a 2-0 Santa Fe lead.

In the fifth Masso doubled to the left centerfield gap, scoring Galis Lozada and Aileen Fiallo (running for Amber Maxey).

Lozada, Masso, Capitini and Bradshaw each had a hit for SF.

The Saints will play an elimination game tonight against either Weatherford College (TX) or Salt Lake City CC at 7:30 PM MST (9:30 Eastern). Live audio of the game can be found at www.ihigh.com/njcaatv.  The loser of that contest will be eliminated and the winner will move on to play on Friday at 2:30 PM MST.
