Low-income and first-generation college students get help, answers during statewide financial aid program
Students who hope to attend
college will be given a clear path to federal cash assistance during a free statewide event known as Florida College Goal
Sunday.
On Sunday, Jan. 31, financial experts will help college-bound students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) from 2-4 p.m. at Santa Fe College, 3000 NW 83rd St., Building N, room 216, Gainesville, Florida 32606. The FAFSA helps students access billions in federal funds available for college.
"Traditionally, low-income and first generation students fall through the cracks in the financial aid process because they're intimidated by the forms and have not been exposed to the financial aid process," said Marueen McFarlane, associate director of Financial Aid. "College Goal Sunday helps break the barriers that prevent students from accessing funds they need to pursue higher education."
Florida College Goal Sunday is a free event. Financial aid assistance will be available in English, Spanish and Creole. Scholarship drawings will be held for students who attend the event.
