LAKE SUMTER KEEPS PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE WITH 2-1 WIN OVER SANTA FE
Gainesville, FL – Two days after clinching their third straight Mid Florida Conference championship, the Santa Fe Saints (34-8-1, 17-5 MFC) came out flat against Lake Sumter CC, scoring only one run on five hits in the 2-1 defeat. With their season on the line, LSCC (24-20, 12-10 MFC) did just enough to earn the win, scraping together two late runs on six hits.
Alec Asher started on the hill for the Saints and threw four scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit while striking out five. Antwan Brown and Brendan O’Rourke each pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen, Daniel Schiller gave up one unearned run in his inning of work, Kyle Rowe pitched to two batters in the ninth and Steven Ragans finished out the game.
Neither team scored until the seventh inning when the Lakers capitalized on a SF error to score the first run. Santa Fe answered with a run in the eighth. Nathan Bandy led the frame off with a triple and Austin Lawrence knocked him in on a fielder’s choice.
In the ninth, Lake Sumter broke the 1-1 tie on an RBI single following back to back walks by SF reliever Kyle Rowe. Santa Fe went 1-2-3 in the ninth.
Jake Huxtable was the only Saints with more than one hit, going 3-for-3, accounting for three of the five SF hits.
The Saints travel to College of Central Florida on Wednesday, April 20 for a 3:00 PM game. They wrap up the regular season on the road on Friday at Daytona State College at 3:00 PM.
