The Santa Fe Saints committed five errors and failed to come up with the big hit Thursday night in their 4-1 opening round FCSAA State Tournament loss to the State College of Florida Manatees. The Saints will play an elimination game today against Indian River at 1 p.m.
Starting pitcher Brad Markey was sharp nearly all night, taking a no hitter in to the sixth.
Santa Fe jumped on the board first, scoring a run on a two out double by Shane Kennedy in the third inning.
Markey controlled the Manatee hitters until a rally in the eighth put the Saints behind. SCF loaded the bases on the strength of SF errors and a walk. A clutch two out triple cleared the bases and gave State College the 3-1 lead.
In the ninth, the Manatees added an insurance run on a suicide squeeze play.
Santa Fe put a runner on in the ninth but couldn’t push any runs across.
The Saints out hit the Manatees 6-3 on the game but committed five errors to SCF’s zero.
