Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe sophomore Geena Capitini signed her National Letter of Intent on Thursday afternoon with Bethune-Cookman University, SF Coach Chris Ahern announced. It was a good day for Capitini who later drove in the winning runs of both games of a double header against Daytona State, including a game winning homerun in game two.
“We are very excited for Geena and her opportunity to join the Bethune-Cookman program,” said Ahern. “She has worked hard the last two years and earned this chance to play at the NCAA Division I level. We look forward to following the rest of her career and wish her all the luck.”
Capitini was a part of the Saints NJCAA Atlantic District Championship team in 2013, earning a berth at the National Tournament in St. George, Utah. As a freshman she hit .313 with four homeruns and 26 RBI and was named Honorable Mention All Mid-Florida Conference.
In 36 appearances so far in 2014, she is hitting .292 with a homerun, eight RBI, and four doubles.
Capitini joins a Bethune-Cookman team led by Head Coach Chris Cochran. The Wildcats are currently 15-25 overall and 5-1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) with 11 games left to play.
