SF Women’s Basketball: Saints Break Losing Streak

January 24, 2024 – The Saints went into yesterday’s home game against the Florida Southwestern State College Buccaneers 6-8, having lost the last five games. Would the slide continue?

The Saints trailed the Bucs in the first three quarters. Hope was all but lost.

The Saints tightened their defense in the fourth quarter, limiting the Bucs’ scoring potential. A last-second fast break lay-up nudged the Saints to victory, 56-55.

“I’m very proud of the way our young ladies bought into staying in the moment,” Saints Head Coach Russ Jackson said. “We were able to overcome some poor decisions by not allowing the decision to be more than a moment. Tonight, the ladies found a way to win. I couldn’t be happier for them.”

Conference play continues Thursday, Jan. 25 at the SF Gym. The Saints take on the Hillsborough Community College Hawks at 5 p.m. The Hawks won their last encounter 80-66.

Come support the Santa Fe Saints at the SF Gym, 3000 NW 83 Street, Gainesville. Admission is free for SF faculty, staff, students and retirees with SFID.
