Fastpitch Splits Double Header with State College of Florida

Megan McDonald homered in game two

SF FASTPITCH – 2/16/2013

Gainesville, FL – The FCSAA #2 State College of Florida Manatees (11-3) took game one of a double header Saturday against the #10 Saints (7-5), rallying in the bottom of the sixth for three runs to cap a 5-4 win.

SF trailed 2-0 in the top of the fourth but scored four in the inning, the big hit coming on a bases clearing triple by Galis Lozada.

The Saints failed to hold the lead and surrendered three runs in the bottom of the sixth.  In the top of the seventh SF had a runner reach, but couldn’t to get her home to tie the score.

Lozada finished game one 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI and Karla Claudio was 2-for-3.  Ashley Chapman took the loss in the circle, dropping her to 2-4.

In game two, Claudio (3-1) tossed her second straight shutout for Santa Fe, leading the Saints to a 2-0 victory.  She struck out nine Manatee batters and allowed just two hits.

Megan McDonald provided all the run support Claudio would need with a fourth inning solo homerun and Celeste Bradshaw added an insurance run later in the inning with a sacrifice fly.

McDonald was the lone Saints with multiple hits finished 2-for-3 with a homerun.

Santa Fe continues on the road Tuesday, February 19 at Tallahassee CC.  The double header is scheduled to get under way at 2:00 PM.
