Conference on Climate Change a Success with Santa Fe ESL Students

On Friday, October 21, 2016, six ESL (English as a Second Language) students attended the United Nations Day Conference on Climate Change that was organized by the United Nations Association of Gainesville and it was held at the Woman’s Club on University Avenue.

There were three speakers: The Keynote Address was given by Dr. Glen Galloway, Director of the Sustainable Development Program of the University of Florida. Ms. Susan Nugent spoke about “After Paris: The Climate Change Action Network”. Ms. Abhaya Thiele, spoke about the “Citizens Climate Lobby”.

Many of these foreign students have been in Gainesville only two months; they came here to improve their English. The students sat at different tables and gave out a survey to those attending asking what were considered to be the causes and solutions of climate change.

Our students had to listen to specific terminology dealing with Climate Change, a subject that was introduced to them during the two weeks prior.
