Meditation Workshop February 7 in the Library

January 27, 2020 – A meditation workshop will be offered Friday, Feb. 7, in the Lawrence W. Tyree Library, Room 233, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Physical benefits of meditation include muscle relaxation, lowered blood pressure and increased circulation. Mental benefits include calmness, enhanced awareness and greater mental focus. Research at the University of Wisconsin suggests that meditation “rewires” the brain to throw off stress and produce happiness. Research at UCLA indicates that meditation can improve student exam scores.

This 90-minute workshop will review the main forms of meditation practiced in the United States, discuss some of the scientific research supporting the practice, review the philosophical implications of the transformation of consciousness that it brings about and provide instruction in three useful meditation techniques. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and be available to stay for the entire workshop.

This workshop is fully immersive, and will not involve merely listening and/or taking notes. For this reason, students should not attend if they only seek an event to attend for credit in a course.

The instructor, Patrick Breslin, a faculty member at Santa Fe College, has been practicing and teaching meditation for over 40 years.
