Financial Aid Update: Disbursements and SAP Appeals

September 12, 2024 – Below are updates regarding financial aid disbursements and satisfactory academic progress (SAP) appeals for the current semester.

Disbursements

Ensuring that financial aid disbursements are available as soon as possible is the top priority of the Financial Aid Office.

There are currently nationwide issues with federal systems that process financial aid, affecting colleges and universities across the country, including Santa Fe College. This has impacted the ability of the Financial Aid Office to finalize and disburse Pell grants, federal loans, state and institutional aid.

Additionally, over the past two years, significant regulatory and process changes announced by the federal government have made it necessary for Santa Fe College to begin integrating new systems that will improve our financial aid processes in the long run. While this transition has required extra attention to ensure awards and disbursements are accurate, this is necessary to prevent students from being underpaid or overpaid, which could lead to owing money back to the college.

To support students who may be impacted by these challenges the college extended the financial aid book charging period, is actively collaborating with local apartment complexes and rental agencies, and provides a variety of emergency resources.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeals

SAP appeals are temporarily on hold due to the ongoing system transition. Appeal forms will be available to students in the financial aid portal by Oct. 15. Ensure that the complete appeal, including a personal statement, academic plan, and supporting documentation is submitted by Dec. 1 to be considered for Fall aid eligibility.
