Free to Learn – Ethics Slam: Education After Prison
March 31 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
This event provides an opportunity for the Santa Fe College and greater Gainesville communities to engage in some fast-paced, constructive dialogue about incarceration’s ethical, humanitarian dimensions. In particular, this Ethics Slam will allow participants to wrestle with questions pertaining to educational opportunities and supports offered to those who have been incarcerated and released from prison. What is the role of education as part of reintegration into society? What should educational institutions, such as Santa Fe College, do to support formerly incarcerated students? How does an educational institution benefit from having formerly incarcerated students on its campus? What do you think are the greatest obstacles formerly incarcerated students face when it comes to success and persistence in college?
The aim of an Ethics Slam is to encourage civil discourse, increase understanding of a complex ethical issue that impacts all of us, promote active listening, generate rich conversations, let diverse voices be heard, and foster a respectful community. We hope you’ll join us for this event!
