Free to Learn – Ethics Slam: Education in Prison

22 Mar 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

This event provides an opportunity for the Santa Fe College community to engage in some fast-paced, constructive dialogue about incarceration’s ethical, humanitarian dimensions.  In particular, this Ethics Slam will allow participants to wrestle with questions pertaining to the role of education in prisons, such as Are there risks to providing education to those incarcerated?  Do the aims of college prison programs run counter to the aims of American prisons? What are the responsibilities of higher education institutions, such as Santa Fe College, to provide educational opportunities to those incarcerated?  What kinds of educational opportunities should be afforded those in prison?…

The aim of an Ethics Slam is to encourage civil discourse, increase understanding of a complex ethical issue that impacts all of us, promote active listening, generate rich conversations, let diverse voices be heard, and foster a respectful community.  We hope you’ll join us for this event!

Funding for this program was provided through a grant from Florida Humanities with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
