A Delicious Twist on a Thanksgiving Favorite!

In the spirit of the Thanksgiving season, I am sharing my secret cranberry sauce recipe with you. This is a fun recipe to have children help you make. Towards the end of the cooking process the cranberries almost magically transform into sauce. Added bonus… your home is filled with mouth-watering fragrance.

John Carmean’s Port Wine Cranberry Sauce

INGREDIENTS
Three 1-by-3-inch strips of orange zest, cut into thin matchsticks
1/2 cup fresh orange juice
1/2 cup ruby port
12 ounces fresh cranberries
3/4 cup brown sugar

INSTRUCTIONS
In a saucepan, combine ruby port with orange juice and orange zest.
Bring mixture to a boil.
Add the cranberries and the brown sugar.
Stir often while mixture simmers over moderately low heat.
Sauce will thicken and be ready, around 25 minutes.
Serve warm or at room temperature.

You can also make this ahead and refrigerate.
