SAINTS SHUT DOWN MARION COUNTY AND TALLAHASSEE LEGENDS

Gainesville, FL – Head Coach Johnny Wiggs and the Santa Fe Saints baseball team moved to 7-0 on Sunday with wins over Marion County, 6-1 and the Tallahassee Legends, 11-1.

The Saints took an early lead in game one when like Miranda singled home Joe Clouse for the first run of the game.  In the second inning, Tommy Ferguson picked up an RBI on a fielder’s choice and Clouse doubled home two later in the inning for a 4-0 Saints lead.

In the fifth Zach Rios doubled home a run and SFC added one more in the sixth for the 6-1 win.

Steven Ragans started on the mound and went two innings, giving up one hit and striking out three.  Antwan Brown, Kevin McCoy and Anthony Ostopovich finished out the final five innings, combining to give up only four hits, two walks and they struck out four.

Clouse finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, Rios was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Corey Elasik was 2-for-3 with two runs scored

In game two against the Tallahassee Legends, the Saints again jumped out to an early lead, this time getting eight runs in the second inning.

Zach Floyd put the first runs on the board with a two RBI triple.  Antonio Sowers collected an RBI with a sac fly later in the inning, Jardian Thomas knocked in a run on a fielder’s choice, Brett Bozeman hit the second sacrifice fly of the inning for the fifth run and Mike Miranda put the exclamation point on with a three run homerun.

SFC would score a run in each of the next three innings, the first on a sac fly by Sowers, the next an RBI single by Jay Taylor and the final run of the game on a double by Kory Wiggs.

Ricky Claudio started the game and pitched two scoreless innings for Santa Fe in the win.  Matt Clement followed him with two innings, giving up one earned run and struck out four.  Jake Stridfelt threw the next 1 2/3 innings, striking out three with no hits and Kevin Welborn finished the game with a hitless 1 1/3 and two strikeouts.

Taylor finished game two 2-for-3 with an RBI, Floyd was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBI and Mike Miranda was 1-for-1 with the big three run homer.

The Saints next games will be on Saturday, October 10 when team Brevard comes to Gainesville for a double header slated to start at noon.
