MILLS, BARTLEY POWER SAINTS TO SECOND STRAIGHT WIN OVER DARTON, 67-53

Gainesville, FL – Lanita Bartley poured in 22 points as the FCCAA #5 Santa Fe Saints (7-1) defeated the Darton College Cavaliers for the second straight game, 67-53. The two teams met in Albany, GA on November 24 with the Saints pulling out the tight victory 73-67.

“This was a good win for our team,” said Coach Chanda Stebbins. “I’m very happy with the execution and unselfishness our team displayed throughout this game. We did a nice job maintaining the lead and I think that’s an example of our growth as a team. It’s tough to beat a team of Darton’s caliber two games in a row like that”

The Saints jumped out to the early lead and built it to double digits, 20-10, with 13:00 to go in the first half on a three pointer by Tracie Sneed.

Darton stayed in the game behind the strong play of Dominique Gilbert and cut the lead to two points at the half, 28-26.

In the second half the Saints again built a double digit lead, 40-30, on the strength of a 12-4 run led by Demisha Mills.

“I thought Demisha was a real difference maker out there,” said Stebbins. “She played extremely hard on every possession and did a great job finishing her shots.”

The Cavaliers cut the lead to 56-49 with five minutes to go, but couldn’t get any closer as the Saints held on for their seventh win of the season.

Bartley led the Saints with 22 points, nine rebounds and six steals. Sneed finished with 15 points and four rebounds and Demisha Mills had 14 points and three steals. Darton’s Dominique Gilbert led all players with 28 points and 20 rebounds.

“Lanita is really playing well right now,” said Stebbins. “She is not only scoring but is passing the ball well and playing good defense.”

Next up for the Saints is the 2009 JUCO Shootout at the Santa Fe Gym on December 4 and 5. SFC will play Tallahassee CC on Friday, December 4 at 6pm and Hillsborough CC on December 5 at 6pm. For a complete schedule, please visit the Santa Fe College Athletics website.
