BARTLEY RECORDS SECOND TRIPLE DOUBLE OF THE SEASON AS SAINTS DEFEAT FSC-J AND CLINCH MFC TITLE

Jacksonville, FL – Lanita Bartley was unstoppable against Florida State College-Jacksonville on Saturday evening, pouring in a career high 37 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 11 assists in the Saints (17-7, 6-0 MFC) 84-71 victory. The win, combined with Central Florida’s loss to Daytona State, clinches Santa Fe’s second straight Mid-Florida Conference title, with three games to go.

“I’m so proud of our team and the effort they have given this whole season,” said Coach Chanda Stebbins. “It’s very special to win the Mid-Florida Conference, but our team knows we have to stay focused because that there is still a lot of games to be played this season.”

Lanita Bartley and Tracie Sneed scored the Saints first 16 points to help SF jump out to an early lead, one they held the whole first half, going up by as many as nine. FSC-J hung tough and cut the deficit to 43-40 at the half.

Santa Fe answered the Stars late first half run with a run of their own to open the second half, building a double digit lead just minutes in. SF kept the pressure on for the remainder of the game and pulled out the 13 point victory, their second over FSC-J this season.

Bartley led all scorers with 37 and was 12-of-14 from the free throw line. Tracie Sneed finished with 15 points, including four three pointers and Demisha Mills had 13 points. The Saints forced 20 turnovers and held the Stars to only 38% shooting from the field.

“Lanita had a great game tonight,” said Stebbins. “She controlled the tempo of the game from start to finish and did a great job getting to the basket, as well as getting other players involved.”

The MFC Champion Saints will travel to Daytona State on February 10 for a 6:00pm game against the Falcons.
