LAZAR, BROWN POWER #2 SAINTS PAST SOUTH FLORIDA CC, 5-1, 11-3
Gainesville, FL – Pitcher Colena Lazar (3-0) picked up a win in the first game of a doubleheader with South Florida CC and pitched the final two innings of game two to record her first save of the season.
Catcher Venica Brown carried the FCCAA #2 Santa Fe Saints (5-2) in game two, going 3-for-3 with two homeruns, three runs scored and five RBI.
Santa Fe struck first in game one, scoring a run in the first on a Taylor Pangilinan double. SF added three more in the third and a final run in the fourth.
Lawna Hunter was 2-for-2 with a double, Pangilinan was 1-for-3 with a double and Alexis Sowell finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Colena Lazar pitched seven innings to earn the win, striking out seven batters.
In game two Jasmine Warren (2-1) started on the mound and earned the win with four solid innings. Colena Lazar came in in relief and pitched the fifth and sixth innings, striking out two to pick up the save.
SF fell behind 2-1 in the early going, but scored three runs in third, two on a double by Colena Lazar and the other on a single by Gia Tomossone to go up 4-2. The Saints added one in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Brown, two in the fifth and ended the game in the sixth with four runs, two on a Venica Brown HR, to force a mercy rule.
Brown led the way for Santa Fe, going 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs and two HR. Gia Tomossone finished 3-for-4 with two runs, Colena Lazar was 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored and Lawna Hunter finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
