SAINTS HIT FOUR HOMERUNS IN ROUTE TO 7-6 WIN OVER HILLSBOROUGH

Tampa, FL – Jeff Moyer connected on two homeruns to help the Santa Fe Saints (4-3) power their way to a 7-6 victory over the Hillsborough CC “Hawks” on Monday night in Tampa.  Zach Floyd and Austin Lawrence also homered in the win.

The Saints opened the scoring in the top of the first on a Mike Miranda ground out RBI and never trailed in the game.  Bryce Johnston singled home a run in the second and SF added three more in the third on a Jeff Moyer two run homerun and a solo shot by Zach Floyd to give the Saints a 5-2 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Moyer left the yard again to push the lead to 6-2, HCC answered with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to trim the margin to 6-5.

With a one run lead in the eighth, Austin Lawrence stepped into the batter’s box and slugged a solo homerun to extend the Saints lead to 7-5.

The Hawks managed to score one run in the ninth, but with two outs and the bases loaded, sophomore Daryl Barnes stepped in to shut things down with a strikeout to save the game.

Steven Ragans (1-0), a local product from Buchholz High School, took the mound in his first collegiate start and pitched four solid innings to pick up the win.  Ragans gave up only one earned run and struck out four.  Jake Stridfeldt, Kevin Welborn, Jardian Thomas and Daryl Barnes pitched in relief.  Barnes pitched the final out to earn the save, his first of the season.

Moyer led the Saints on offense, going 4-for-4 with two homeruns and three RBI.  TJ Spina finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Floyd was 1-for-4 with a HR, Lawrence was 1-for-4 with a HR and Bryce Johnston was 1-for-4 with a RBI.

SF travels to St. Petersburg College on Wednesday to take on the Titans at 3:00pm in Clearwater.  Coach Johnny Wiggs and the Saints next home game is against Miami Dade College on Friday at 3:00pm.
