SANTA FE TAKES FIRST GAME OF THREE GAME SET WITH TCC, 12-5

Gainesville, FL – Ken Wise (2-1) pitched a strong five innings for the Saints (9-7) on Friday afternoon and Tommy Goodman threw the final four innings to preserve the win for SF against FCCAA #9 Tallahassee CC (7-7).

The entire lineup contributed offensively as the Saints pounded out 13 hits including three triples and three homeruns.

“It’s great to get solid pitching and production from every spot in the lineup like we did today,” said Coach Johnny Wiggs.  “Having Brett Bozeman back behind the plate is also going to help us a lot going forward.”

TJ Spina got things started for the Saints with a two run homerun in the bottom of the first after Austin Lawrence tripled to open the game.  TCC answered with one run in the second and one in the third to tie the score at 2-2.

Brett Bozeman broke the tie in the third when he sent a TCC fastball over the right field fence for his first collegiate homerun, putting Santa Fe up 3-2. The Saints tacked on another run in the inning on an RBI groundout by Ricky Claudio.

In the fifth inning, Jardian Thomas tripled and two batters later DH Cory Elasik drove him in with a single.  Austin Lawrence knocked in another run with an RBI groundout to make the score 6-2.

TCC kept things close in the sixth by scoring two runs, but SF answered with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning on a two out, two RBI single by Lawrence.

The Saints put things out of reach in the seventh with three runs on RBI by Mike Miranda, Joe Clouse and Elasik.

Zach Floyd put the finishing touches on the Santa Fe victory with a pinch hit homerun in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 12-5.

Lawrence, the Saints leadoff hitter, finished 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBI, Bozeman was 3-for-6 with a homerun and Cory Elasik was 3-for-4 with two RBI.

The Saints and Eagles continue their three game series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 12:00pm.
