DOTY PACES #2 SAINTS TO TWO WALK-OFF 2-1 WINS OVER #4 FSC-J

Gainesville, FL – Saints outfielder Britany Doty played the hero on Saturday, hitting two clutch homeruns in wins over Florida State College Jacksonville.  The first HR came in the bottom of the seventh with two outs in game one and tied the score 1-1.  The Saints (28-4, 6-0 MFC) went on to win in nine innings.  Her second homerun came in walk-off fashion as she broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh with a blast over the left field fence.  Crystal Chesser took the loss in both games for FSC-J.

The Stars struck first in game one with a run in the second inning on a HR by Crystal Chesser.  Saints pitcher Colena Lazar (17-0) kept SF in the game until Doty’s tying homerun in the seventh.  She struck out 14 batters in nine innings of work and gave up only five hits.

In the bottom of the ninth Taylor Pangilian reached safely on a throwing error to start the inning.  Gia Tomossone sacrificed her to second and two batters later Colesa Lazar drove a single to center field, scoring Pangilinan for the winning run.

Doty finished game one 2-for-4 with a single and a homerun.  Alexis Sowell, Lawna Hunter, Taylor Pangilinan and Madi Brown had one hit each.

Jasmine Warren started on the mound in game two and pitched 4.1 scoreless innings.  Colena Lazar pitched the final 2.2 innings to earn her 17th win of the year.

The Saints scored first in game two, manufacturing a run in the fourth inning.  Jaimee Vega went all the way to second on an error by the centerfielder to start the inning and moved to third on a ground out by Lawna Hunter.  With two outs in the inning and runners on first and second, Pangilinan stole second base and Vega scored on an errant throw by the catcher, putting SF up 1-0.

FSC-J tied the score at 1-1 with a homerun in the sixth, setting up the heroics in the bottom of the seventh.

Gia Tomossone was the first batter in the seventh for the Saints and nearly ended the game with a blast that came up just short of going out.  Doty stepped into the box next and on a 1-1 count hit a towering homerun over the left field fence, winning the game for SF.

Doty finished 1-for-3 with a homerun, her second of the day.  Pangilinan and Vega had one hit each.

The Saints will travel to Seminole State College on Thursday for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 2:30pm.  They will return home on Saturday for two games with Central Florida CC at 1:00 and 3:00pm.
