Warren, Lazar Pitch Two Five-Inning Shutouts of SJRCC, 8-0 and 9-0

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (36-6, 14-2 MFC) took care of business on Tuesday afternoon, dispatching of St. John’s River CC in two five inning games, both of them 8-0.  The wins clinched the Saints a berth in the State Tournament in Auburndale on April 30-May 2.

Colena Lazar (22-1) pitched game one and struck out nine to earn her twenty-second win and tenth shutout of the year.  She now has 224 strikeouts in 157.1 innings pitched and batters are only hitting .131 against her on the season.

The Saints scored one in the first on an RBI groundout by Lawna Hunter and three runs in the second on RBI singles by Jaimee Vega and Mandi Brown to make the score 4-0.

Tomossone doubled home two more runs in the fourth and the Saints ended the game in the fifth with a hit by Britany Doty that turned into a run after an SJRCC error and a walk off homerun by Colesa Lazar.

Alexis Sowell finished 2-for-3, Tomossone was 2-for-2 with two RBI and Colesa Lazar was 2-for-2 with a HR.

In game two, Jasmine Warren (14-4) pitched a gem, holding the Vikings to only one hit over five innings.

SF put two on the board in the second on a single by Alexis Sowell and an RBI walk by Hunter and two in the third.

The Saints put the game out of reach in the fourth when they scored five runs on five hits.  Britany Doty cleared the bases with a double to score three, Colesa Lazar knocked her in with a double and Mandi Brown hit an RBI single for the ninth run. 

Doty led the offense in game two, going 3-for-3 with four RBI, Colesa Lazar was 2-for-2 with two RBI and Sowell finished 2-for-3.

The Saints will travel to Lake Sumter CC on Thursday for a doubleheader against the Lakers starting at 2:30pm.
