SAINTS WIN ROUND ONE GAME AGAINST LAKE SUMTER, 7-4

Auburndale, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (46-7, 21-3 MFC) cleared their first hurdle at the FCCAA/NJCAA Region VIII State Tournament, defeating Lake Sumter CC 7-4 to move onto a second round match-up with another MFC team, Seminole State College.  SF took three of four against the Raiders in the regular season.

After a sluggish start to the game, the Saints rallied from a 2-1 deficit, scoring six runs in the fifth to pull out the victory.  The win was the fifth over LSCC this season.

Jasmine Warren picked up the win on the mound, her twentieth victory of the year.  She surrendered four runs, two of them earned on five hits with five strikeouts through seven innings.

Warren helped herself on the offensive side, stealing two bases and scoring the first two runs for SF.

Lake Sumter opened the scoring in the third on a Santa Fe error, but the Saints answered right back with a run in the bottom of the inning.  In the fifth, the Lakers pushed another run across for their second lead, but it didn’t last long.  Jasmine Warren walked to start the bottom of the fifth and then stole second.  Alexis Sowell reached on an error, scoring Warren to tie things at 2-2.  Jaimee Vega followed her with a walk and the next batter, Lawna Hunter, cleared the bases with a triple into the left field corner.

Gia Tomossone put an exclamation point on the inning with a blast to center field, her eleventh homerun of the season and SF scored their last run on a fielder’s choice ground out by Ashley Curry.

Lake Sumter managed two in the seventh, but Warren eventually shut the door, getting a groundout to third to end the game.

The Saints scored seven runs on ten hits.  Lawna Hunter finished 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBI, Gia Tomossone was 2-for-3 with a homerun and Warren was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

The Saints next game will be tonight at 5:00pm against Seminole State College.  The game can be watched live online at www.psblive.com, or heard on the radio in Gainesville on 95.7 FM.
