D’HAITI, FOUR OTHERS SCORE IN DOUBLE FIGURES AS SAINTS CRUISE 100-44

Gainesville, FL – Eddie D’Haiti scored a season high 18 points to lead the FCCAA #7 Santa Fe Saints (6-0) to a resounding 100-44 victory over TAAG Academy on Tuesday night, giving SF their second 100 point performance of the year. The win keeps SF undefeated to start the season.

“Our guys played unselfishly tonight and allowed everyone to get involved,” said SF Coach Chris Mowry. “We had a pretty significant size advantage, but I think it was advantageous for our post players to have to defend smaller, athletic players out at the three point line.”

The Saints never trailed and were staked to an early 19-8 lead thanks in part to the two three pointers each from Chad Renfro and Branimir Mikulic in the games first five minutes.

Santa Fe made six more three point shots over the course of the first 20 minutes for a season high eight in the first half, leading to a 45-22 halftime margin.

The second period was much of the same as the Saints continued to play suffocating defense and shoot for a high percentage. Mikulic opened the half with two three pointers, starting a 30-9 Santa Fe run. The lead grew the rest of the game and Eddie D’Haiti capped the win with a layup for the 100th point.

SF shot 59% (36-for-61) from the field and held TAAG to only 26.7% (16-for-60). The Saints outscored TAAG from the free throw line 18-9 and outrebounded them 50-26.

Five Saints scored in double figures, led by D’Haiti’s 18. Branimir Miluklic added 16 to go with eight rebounds, Chad Renfro scored 13, Jerome Clyburn had 13 and Mike Washington had 11 with eight rebounds. Marko Djekovic led the team in assists with six.

“Our guards did a nice job recognizing the mismatches and getting the ball inside,” said Mowry. “Our posts used their size advantage and were able to get some easy buckets.”

Santa Fe travels to Melbourne on Saturday, November 20 to take on Brevard CC at 4:00pm. The next home game is on Wednesday, November 24 against Polk State College at 5:00pm
