Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (11-3-1) put the game away early on Friday afternoon against Rend Lake College (IL), scoring 10 runs in the third inning for an early 11-1 lead.

The 10 run third was more than enough for starting pitcher Alec Asher (3-0) who pitched six innings, striking out nine while giving up just one run. Daniel Schiller pitched innings seven and eight and gave up no hits and struck out four. Andrew Grifol closed the game out in the ninth, surrendering one run.

Rend Lake struck first with a run in the second inning but the lead was short lived. SF tied the score in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by Zach Taylor.

The flood gates opened in the third as SF scored 10 runs on nine hits and one Warrior error. TJ Spina (2) had the big blast in the inning, smashing a two out grand slam, his second hit of the inning, over the scoreboard in left field. Jordan Turner led the inning off with a single and also singled later in the inning. Austin Lawrence drove in the first run of the frame, Jake Huxtable singled in two runs and Cory Elasik, Jordan Turner and Zach Taylor all had RBI hits.

Santa Fe scored two more in the fourth on an RBI double by Andrew Grifol and two more in the eighth on an RBI triple by Taylor and a ground out by Grifol.

The Saints racked up 16 hits on 41 at bats on the day. Spina finished 2-for-3 with a grand slam and four RBI, Austin Lawrence was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Turner was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Andrew Grifol 2-for-5 with three RBI, Zach Taylor 2-for-4 with three RBI and a triple and three runs and Jake Huxtable finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and a double.

The Saints and Warriors finish up a three game series on Saturday, February 19 with a double header scheduled to start at 12:00 PM.
