SAINTS OUTLAST LAKE SUMTER 9-6 TO WIN EIGHTH STRAIGHT

Leesburg, FL – The Santa Fe offense continued to click on all cylinders Monday night against Lake Sumter, scoring nine runs, led by a 4-for-5 effort by sophomore Austin Lawrence.

The win is the eighth in a row for the Saints (30-6-1, 13-3 MFC) and 13th in their last 14 games. They have now scored nine runs or more in 10 of their 16 Mid-Florida Conference games. With one more win, SF will tie the school record for most regular season wins set by the 1988 team.

Jarrod Carlton started on the mound and pitched four innings, surrendering two runs on five hits. Chris Lee pitched the next 2.2 innings and also gave up two runs. Kyle Rowe allowed two runs in 1.1 innings and Steven Ragans closed the game out with a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season.

Cory Elasik opened the scoring for Santa Fe in the first inning when he singled home Austin Lawrence who had doubled to start the game.

Lake Sumter answered with one run in the second and another in the third to take a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth Tim Remes and Jay Laurienzo singled, Lawrence followed with a RBI double and Jake Huxtable cleared the bases with a single to make the score 4-2.

SF added two more in the sixth on a two RBI single by Laurienzo, two in the seventh on a RBI fielder’s choice by Lawrence and a single Huxtable and capped the scoring in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Drew Doty.

Lawrence finished the game 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored, Jake Huxtable was 3-for-5 with three RBI, Andrew Grifol 2-for-3, Tim Remes 2-for-4 and Jay Laurienzo was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The Saints return home on Wednesday, April 6 at 3:00 PM to host the College of Central Florida.
