SAINTS TAKE TWO FROM SEMINOLE 1-0 AND 3-2, AHERN WINS 400TH GAME AT SF
Gainesville, FL – Colena Lazar pitched two gems and Gia Tomossone had a big day at the plate as the NJCAA #12 Santa Fe Saints (35-8, 14-2 MFC) swept past Seminole State College (35-18, 13-5 MFC) to give Coach Chris Ahern career wins number 400 and 401 in just eight years at SF bring her overall record to 401-84.
The two victories give Santa Fe a 3-1 season series win over Seminole.
Lazar (25-5) controlled game one in the circle striking out eight Raider batters and allowing just two hits to earn her 23rd career complete game shutout. Ashley Curry came up with the game winning RBI to propel the Saints to the 1-0 victory.
Gia Tomossone finished game one 2-for-3 and Bianca Torres was also 2-for-3.
In game two, the score was tied 2-2 going into the fifth when Tomossone stepped to the plate and delivered a towering homerun over the left field scoreboard to give SF a 3-2 lead.
Lazar held off any Raider rallies the rest of the way to earn her 25th win. She surrendered six hits and gave up two unearned runs, striking out two. She now has 249 strikeouts on the year and 528 for her career.
Tomossone was 2-for-3 in game two with two runs scored and two RBI, including the homerun. Erika Garcia was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Bianca Torres scored a run.
The Saints travel to Florida State College at Jacksonville (36-13, 11-3 MFC) on Tuesday for a double header against the second place team in the MFC at 4:00 PM.
