LAURIENZO NAMED NJCAA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN

Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe sophomore baseball player Jay Laurienzo was recently named an Academic All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association, a sophomore only award achieved with a 3.60 GPA or better.

“I can’t tell you how proud we all are of Jay,” said SF Coach Johnny Wiggs. “What a great accomplishment to have such talent in the classroom and on the field. He will always be successful in whatever he does due to his great work ethic. He is a great representative for Santa Fe College and Santa Fe College Baseball.”

Laurienzo has signed a letter of intent to continue his playing and academic career at NCAA Division II Flagler College.

A transfer from Florida Gulf Coast, Laurienzo led the Saints in homeruns during the 2011 season, blasting 11. He was fourth on the team in batting average, hitting .338 with eight doubles and 39 RBI.
