SAINTS SET TO OPEN FALL BALL SEASON ON SEPTEMBER 10 AT 12:00 PM
Gainesville, FL – Coach Johnny Wiggs and the three time defending Mid-Florida Conference champion Santa Fe Saints begin their “Fall Ball” season on September 10 against travel ball team Chet Lemon’s Juice at 12:00 PM.
“It’s great to get started tomorrow with this new group,” said Wiggs. “We have had a couple of good weeks of practice so it will be nice to see them compete against another team. I have been real encouraged so far with their work ethic and their ability. The “Juice” are loaded with talent – many D1 early commits – and will pose a great challenge for us this early in the fall.”
Five players return from last year’s team: OF Trey Griffin, 1B Garrett Greenwell, LHP Ryan Yarbrough, C Tim Remes and OF Drew Doty.
“We will look for our returners to help lead us early this fall,” said Wiggs. “Drew Doty, Trey Griffin, and Tim Remes were All Conference a year ago and know what it takes to be successful at this level.”
Twenty five new student athletes join the SF team in the fall, each looking to make an impact.
“I’m excited to see our new guys get their feet wet,” said Wiggs. “Lawrence Pardo and Brad Markey are two new pitchers that have thrown well early and will a couple innings of work each. Our new infield lineup, which includes Jake Tillotson, Shane Kennedy, Josh Stewart, AJ Mackey, Brad Markey and Graham Ramos, has been a strength early on in practice.”
The Saints will play 12 dates in the fall, 10 of them at home. The opponents include MFC rival St. John’s River State College, St. Petersburg College, Hillsborough CC and the 2010 State Champion State College of Florida Manatees.
