SAINTS FASTPITCH OPENS FALL BALL AGAINST OSCEOLA OVERDRIVE ON SEPT. 17 AT 9:30 AM
Gainesville, FL – Coach Chris Ahern and the seven time defending Mid-Florida Conference champions open their Fall Ball scrimmage schedule on Saturday, September 17 against the Osceola Overdrive in doubleheader action starting at 9:30 AM.
“This year’s softball team has had a very enthusiastic start to fall-they are working hard, and are anxious to get better, to find their ‘groove’ and to build on the chemistry they have begun to develop,” said Coach Chris Ahern.
The Saints return nine players from last year’s team, including five All MFC performers: 1B Alaysia Miller, SS Ashley Holton, 2B/OF Bianca Torres, 1B/P Erika Garcia, and OF Brittney Mayhill. Other returning players looking to make an impact for SF this season: OF Nicole Day, OF Colleen Leebove, INF Jessica Threadgill, and P Stephanie Cameron.
“There are nine returners who are looking forward to being back on the field, joined by twelve new faces who have some speed, power, and overall desire to put forth the effort to become a unified team,” said Ahern. “We are very pleased with their drive, talent and flexibility.”
Santa Fe will play 13 different teams in the fall, including NJCAA rivals and some of the best NCAA Div. I talent the state of Florida has to offer.
“Our fall lineup includes some very good travel ball teams at home, and some road games which will present quite a challenge,” Ahern said. “Playing the University of North Florida, University of South Florida, Florida State University and University of Florida is a wonderful opportunity for the Saints. They are excited to face such quality programs, and we are excited for them to be able to go out there and work hard against such a quality schedule.”
