Volunteers needed to expand hours
Kudos to Coordinator Shellie Banfield, who has taken on organizing a new food pantry at the Davis Center in conjunction with Gainesville Harvest.
“Even though Harvest has a food pantry in Archer, we felt like there was a real need among our students. We wanted to open a pantry right here on campus,” Shellie explained.
She is looking for volunteers to staff the pantry in both the day and evening hours. She is also accepting donations of nonperishable food. So far, the Haile Plantation Publix is delivering bread and other baked goods on Mondays, when the pantry is open noon-1 p.m.
“We hope to expand our hours as soon as we get some more help,” Shellie said.
Everything donated to Stamp Out Hunger at the Davis Center is going to stay in the center’s Gainesville Harvest Food Pantry.
