CONWAY POURS IN 24 IN SAINTS WIN OVER GULF COAST, 82-68

Marianna, FL – Sophomore forward Matt Conway scored 24 points on a perfect 8-for-8 from the three point line against Gulf Coast State College on Saturday afternoon at the Panhandle Shootout in Marianna, leading the FCSAA #7 Saints (8-1) to an 82-68 victory, the team’s third in a row. Seven of Conway’s threes came in the first half.

“This was a great win for our team and an overall very positive weekend for us,” said Mowry. “We played excellent defense both days and shot the ball good enough to win. Matt gave us a good spark, especially in the first half with those seven threes.”

The Saints started slow, falling behind 10-2 at the 16:00 minute mark but turned it on over the final ten minutes of the half to take a 48-31 lead into the break. SF shot 50% from the field and made nine three pointers in the first half.

Santa Fe picked up where they left off in the second period and widened the margin to 20, where it stayed most of half. The largest lead of the game for SF, 73-51, came in the closing minutes. Gulf Coast mounted a late rally but never closed the gap to single digits. A late basket by Santa Fe gave the Saints the 82-68 win.

The Saints held Gulf Coast to just 33.8% shooting, a day after holding Tallahassee to 28% from the field.

Brian Holmes joined Conway in double digits with 19 points, Marko Djekovic scored 12, including 6-for-6 from the free throw line, and Altavious Carter had 10.

Santa Fe will take a few days off before returning to the court on December 6 at 7:00 PM to battle Indian River State College in the SF Gym.
