Baseball Completes Three Game Sweep of South Georgia

SAINTS COMPLETE THREE GAME SWEEP OF SOUTH GEORGIA

Douglas, GA – The Santa Fe Saints (3-0) pulled off a doubleheader win against the South Georgia College Tigers on Sunday, completing a three game sweep of the 2011 JuCo World Series participants. Both games were scheduled for seven innings.

SF won game one 8-4 in 10 innings and finished the day with a 16-2 victory in seven innings.

The NJCAA #9/FCSAA #2 Saints took a 4-0 lead into the sixth inning of game one, but SGC rebounded to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh with two runs off Santa Fe closer Felix Roque. The Saints won it in the top of the tenth inning on RBI doubles by Blake Berger and Graham Ramos, and an RBI single by Drew Doty. Trevor Berry (1-0) pitched the final two innings to earn the win.

Mallex Smith finished game one 2-for-4 with three runs scored, Ramos was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI, Doty was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Blake Berger was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Ryan Yarbrough (1-0) started game two and scattered five hits over four innings, allowing no runs and striking out six. He got all the run support he needed when the Saints exploded for six runs in the first inning, three in the second, five in the third and two in the sixth. Tim Remes hit his second homerun of the season in the third inning when he blasted a three run shot.

In game two Ramos continued his hot streak with a 4-for-5 effort, including a double, two runs and two RBI. Shane Kennedy was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI.

Ramos finished the three game series 9-for-14 with two doubles and five RBI and Tim Remes was 4-for-7 with two HR and five RBI.

As a team, the Saints hit .327 and scored 32 runs. The pitchers struck out 29 Tiger batters in 26 innings and had a combined 2.42 ERA. The defense was solid all weekend, posting a .981 fielding percentage with just two errors.

Santa Fe opens up at home on Wednesday, February 1 at 3:00 PM against Polk State College.
