Seminar on Addiction and Eating Disorders

Dr. Kevin Wandler, clinical director of UF’s new Eating Disorder Recovery Clinic will be coming to campus to talk to students. The Counseling Center and Student Life have presented SF students with a wonderful opportunity to hear an expert speak on addictions and eating disorders.  Dr. Wandler and his colleague, Dr. Elizabeth Dizney will be making their presentation at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16 in Building F, room 258.

Dr. Wandler has over 17 years of experience treating patients with eating disorders. As an addictions specialist, he will be looking at the connection between his two areas of expertise, addictions and eating disorders. Dr. Wandler is a Diplomat in the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with added qualifications in Addictions Psychiatry. He is also certified in Addiction Medicine and Adolescent Psychiatry and is a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist in Mental Health. He received his Medical Degree from University of Iowa Medical School, in 1982, and completed his Internship and Psychiatric Residency at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, in 1986.

Dr. Dizney is a local expert in the treatment of eating disorders including bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, obesity, and food addiction. Dr. Dizney’s primary clinical approach includes the development of a new model of mental health treatment to help individuals overcome the cognitive and emotional barriers that keep them from healthy eating. As a result, the University of Florida Eating Disorders Program integrates several theoretical perspectives including medical monitoring, cognitive-behavioral therapy, socio-cultural based interventions, and group therapy, along with participation in a 12-step based recovery program.

This presentation would be an excellent opportunity for students to explore a health topic, as well as a diversity topic or even possibly a career path.  It would be greatly appreciated if you would please promote this event to your students.
