SAINTS ROLL PAST COASTAL GEORGIA, 9-1 AND 14-2

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints took a break from their Mid-Florida Conference schedule on Monday, welcoming the College of Coastal Georgia to Gainesville for a double header. The Saints (27-21, 12-6 MFC) fell behind 1-0 in the first game, but never trailed the rest of the way, cruising to a 9-1 victory in the first contest and a convincing 14-3 win in game two. Both games were ended by mercy rule.

SF piled up 16 hits in game one, including a 4-for-4 four run performance by catcher Layne McDermond and a 2-for-3 three RBI game by Brittney Mayhill.

The Mariners scored one run in the first on two Santa Fe errors, but two runs in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and two more in the sixth ended the game.

Game two was all Saints from the get go. SF put one on the board in the first on an Ashley Holton homerun and then seven more in the second, led by an Erika Garcia grand slam. Three runs in the third and three more in the fourth put the Saints ahead 14-0. Coastal Georgia salvaged three runs in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the mercy rule victory for Santa Fe.

Shannen Marchu finished game two 2-for-2 with three RBI, Ashley Holton was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a homerun and Erika Garcia was 1-for-2 with a grand slam and four RBI.

The Saints play their last home double header of the season on Tuesday, April 10 at 2:30 PM against Lake Sumter CC.
