Artist and author Raul Villarreal will be on display in the Fine Art’s Hall lobby thru October 19th. The artist stated, ” The recent series of works are inspired by personal memories and experiences, the assimilation of other cultures, appropriated images from mass media, and old family photographs. The work is often autobiographical, depicting my experiences as an immigrant growing in the United States, and growing up in and around Finca Vigía: Ernest Hemingway’s Cuban estate in my hometown of San Francisco de Paula, Havana, Cuba”. The college will be hosting a reception on Wednesday, October 17th in the Fine Art’s Hall lobby, followed by a lecture by the artist, discussing his work as well as the book he co-authored with his father “Hemingway’s Cuban Son” about Hemingway’s life in Cuba and the author’s enduring friendship with the Villarreal family. This event is free and open to the public.
