SAINTS BATTLE THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA FRIDAY, OCT. 12 AT 5 P.M.; PLAY USF IN TAMPA ON SUNDAY AT 1 P.M.
Gainesville, FL – Coach Chris Ahern and the Santa Fe Saints will make the short trip across town on Friday evening to battle the University of Florida Gators at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium at 5:00 PM in a scheduled double header.
Florida finished the 2012 season just short of a Women’s College World Series berth.
The Gators are the second of four NCAA teams the Saints will face over the course of the fall season. Coach Chris Ahern believes the tough competition will prepare her players for the spring.
“We are facing some of the best players and teams in the country this fall,” Ahern said. “UF is a powerhouse under Coach Tim Walton and we expect to see another very good team on Friday. On Sunday we go to Tampa and play 2012 College World Series participant the University of South Florida. These types of games will expose our team to the best of the best and help prepare them for the regular season. We are very grateful for our players to have this type of opportunity.”
On Sunday the Saints travel to Tampa to play the University of South Florida Bulls. The Bulls had their best season in team history in 2012, defeating UF in the Super Regionals to advance to the school’s first ever Women’s College World Series.
